This post was supposed to publish on Friday. I scheduled it to do so, and the scheduler still says that it’s scheduled to publish on Friday, Apr 22, 2011 at 18:30…and yet it’s still in draft mode. I’m going to publish now – sorry for the out-of-date line at the very end!
I have heard arguments about global warming. They go something like, “It’s a conspiracy!” and “There’s conflicting data! These scientists over here don’t believe global warming is real!” and “This is just a warmer cycle; our planet goes through different climate change cycles all the time!” Wanna know my opinion? (I hope so, because I’m going to tell you anyway – it is my blog, after all.) WHO GIVES A CRAP WHICH SIDE IS RIGHT? Let’s pretend, just for the sake of argument, that global warming is a complete myth. Does that mean we should continue to treat this planet with reckless abandon? No, of course not. We should try and have as little impact on the Earth as we can, try to take care of it, especially since this is the only planet we know of that we can actually live on.
So I don’t really care if you think global warming is real or not. Please recycle anyway. Please find ways to re-use items, to repair items, to consume less, to be more energy-efficient, to buy more locally. Take care of your home as best you can, because even if you don’t think it’s falling apart now, chances are that if we continue to abuse it, one day it will.
Happy Earth Day.
