Let me begin by saying I’m officially old. We old folks, we don’t do so well staying up until 1:30 am and then getting up to go to work the next morning. I’m feeling my age today. Sheesh.
Anyway, last night, we cashed in on one of the gifts I gave D. for Christmas and went to see Tapes ‘n Tapes at the Jefferson. We met up with our friends Laura and Andy at Revolutionary Soup before the show – good food, good timing, right? RevSoup closes at 8:00 pm on Tuesdays, the doors to the show opened at 8:00 pm, all good. Dinner was yummy, then we walked to the theater…and were pretty much the first people there. Yep, we’re old. And because we’re old, we grabbed one of the three tables in the whole place so we could sit down the entire time. At a rock ‘n roll show. Old, I told you.
First opening act: local band the Astronomers. They were fabulous. Lots of fun, lots of energy, just out there having a good time and giving it all they could. We found out later that our friends Allison and Todd – who were also there – are friends with these guys, which was pretty cool. We liked them and would totally go see them again. Next up was Oberhofer. They’re traveling with Tapes ‘n Tapes, and none of us had ever even heard of them before. Musically, they were tight. Their sound was big and polished, and we all agreed the drummer was amazing. Lyrics? Meh. And a lot of the songs sounded very similar. Stage presence struck me as extremely affected. Still, I enjoyed bobbing my head along with their sounds. And then finally, Tapes ‘n Tapes came on – and just totally rocked it. Phenomenal from start to finish. They have a brand-new album out, and they opened and closed with new songs, and played from other albums as well as the new one in the middle. It was a nice long set, and they played Dave’s favorite song as well as mine. They put on a GREAT show; I’d highly recommend seeing them live to anyone who likes their music.
And then we went home as fast as we could and tried to calm down to go to bed. Because we’re old, and we knew we had to get up early this morning. *SIGH* Anyway, if you’ve never heard of Tapes ‘n Tapes, I will leave you with a snippet and you can judge for yourself. This is my personal favorite Tapes ‘n Tapes song. Hope you enjoy!
