Flashback Friday

Today’s flashback, not so long ago.  In fact, the photo on the right was taken just three days ago.  The one on the left is from some time in the last 4 years, but I couldn’t tell you exactly when.  This is our dog, McNulty.  Yes, those are two pictures of the same dog.  I know it may be hard to believe, but it’s true.  The picture on the left is his usual scruffy, shaggy look.  His hair is very wiry and grows quite long and thick.  But in this unbearable, insane heat we’ve been having, it was just too much hair.  Over the past month, we’ve had maybe 2 days where the temperature dipped below 90 degrees.  I’m not sure the humidity has EVER dipped below 85%.  We’ve had about half of the month over 95 degrees and multiple days over 100.  This is not normal for the Virginia mountains.  It’s too damn hot, to borrow from Ella Fitzgerald.  Anyway.  Shaggy dog = sad, hot, panting, nearly immobile dog in this weather.  So we finally took him to the groomer this week, and…wow.  He looks younger, he even acts younger now that he’s not spending all of his energy trying to cool off.  He is definitely a happier pup this week, and while I miss his cute shagginess (the lack of which is only temporary – I’m guessing he’ll be downright shaggy again by the end of September), I am very happy that he feels so much better!

    1. Creatures Great and Small. They’re cheaper than most of the other groomers in town, and I know the family who runs the place – I doubt you knew Katie Emmanuel at TRS, she probably worked there before your time, but anyway her family owns it. She actually quit TRS to partner with her parents in the business. They’re on Berkmar, and being so near the SPCA, they do free grooming for the SPCA pets, which I also like. 🙂 They’re real animal lovers.
